Accomplishments

Through many late nights…

Being in the Journalism and Technical Communication program at Ferris meant I got a little bit of everything when it comes to writing and media experience.

From freshman year to now

I came into Ferris not participating in anything on campus. As I am about to end my senior year I am the Lifestyles Editor and Podcast Manager at the Torch and the Bulldog Radio Secretary. I have learned many different ways to write including;

  • AP style writing
  • Technical writing
  • MLA style
  • APA style
  • Grant proposal writing
  • Creative writing

I have learned photography and videography as well as my way around adobe suites. I was also in charge of posting about the podcast and my section when we did not have a social media manager so I learned about media posting.

Being an editor also meant learning how to manage different people and learning to work with them so they are able to succeed. More often than not my reporters had little to no AP style or reporting experience. I had to show them a lot of the journalism world.

Being Bulldog Radio secretary and Office Manager had a lot of the same job aspect so I got a lot of experience in that kind of aspect from meeting minutes to making sure our office space was clean.

Work I have done while at school:

● St. Mary’s Afterschool Care as a Latchkey Teacher (August 2018 – present)

● Reed City Wesco, Store 50 as an Operations Manager (October 2018 – present)

● Ferris State Torch as Office Manager, Reporter and Lifestyles and Opinions editor (October 2018 – present)
